Ray Kelly, author, owns a small sign shop in central Montana. I have been a frustrated cartoonist for 50+ years, and now I have an opportunity to show the world my distorted view of life. Enjoy!

  2. I think you should use a different background color. White is good because it works with any colors you use in your comics.
I like your comics, but I think the weird background color is distracting.

Hey me again – the little green guy in the gravatar…..was surfing your site and noticed your link to Cartoon Stock. I stumbled across them some time ago and pondered approaching them. How has your experience been with them? Worthwhile?

Well, I still have my day job. I can’t complain, very nice to work with, answered all questions promptly. If you don’t have PayPal or something like that, they won’t send any money out until you are over $100. But, what the heck, they seem okay. Here’s my contact info: joelm@cartoonstock.com, his name is Joel Mishon and I think they are based in England. Good Luck Marti!

    Ok, time to talk tech.

I can’t remember if it was you who I asked a while back about software. So, hopefully I don’t waste your time, but what do you use? I do remember the answer at the time was Procreate. I bought it and absolutely love using it…but anyway, back to you.

Oh, and one I didn’t ask at the time – how do you blur your backgrounds? Draw normally, then use a blur type function?

    • Ray Kelly says:

Hi Marti; I am using a Wacom tablet with AutoDesk Sketchbook pro. I draw foreground and background on different layers than import into CorelDraw were I can use their guassian blur effect on the background layer than overlay the transparent .jpeg foreground layer. I own a sign shop in Montana and I use CorelDraw for most of my Sign designing, so I feel pretty comfortable with it. I can import from AutoDesk and adjust effects in CorelDraw (It’s a poor mans version of Adobe Illustrator)

      Hope I helped

      Ray

Hiya, out of curiosity, have you had your work published? It’s so funny and looks so professional (puts my scribbles to shame)
    Marti

    • Ray Kelly says:

Thank You for saying so, It definitely does not put your work to shame, you are very talented! I tried to get my work published years ago but no one seemed interested, so I got my courage up to do a blog to see if anyone beside my family would like my stuff. Thanks again for your comment, please keep up the good work, I enjoy your work as well.

Just home from seeing Blood Brothers at His Majesty’s in Aberdeen. Brilliant show! Marti did a falubous job the fella has an amazing set of pipes on him, that’s for sure! He struggled to hold the accent sometimes but still very impressive, as were the rest of the cast. Can’t wait to see the show again, although I won’t make the mistake of sitting in the balcony again!!!

  10. Great comics! New fan here.

  11. Howdo Mr Ray sir

I awarded you with the Liebster blog award on my blog this morning. Part of your duties for this are to nominate/award a few blogs of your choosing and then post about them.

  12. Just seen the ER Winnie the Pooh one. Took me a few seconds to get the joke but it is brilliant.

PS – I promise not to steal that one either.

  13. That Attila the Hon panel is brilliant and I promise not to steal the joke.
